Where is the Sansevero Chapel Museum?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

The Sansevero Chapel Museum is located in Via F. De Sanctis, just off Piazza San Domenico Maggiore in the heart of Naples’ historical town centre. The Museum is about a minute’s walk from Via dei Tribunali (the so-called decumanus maior) and about two minutes’ walk from Via B. Croce (part of the lower decumanus, commonly known as “Spaccanapoli”). Piazza del Gesù, the monumental complex of Santa Chiara, and Via San Gregorio Armeno (“Christmas Street”), are just a few minutes’ walk from the Museum. The Sansevero Chapel Museum is in the “ZTL del Centro Antico”, the traffic-free zone of the old part of town. For information on how to reach us, please visit the Where to find us page.

How long is the visit?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

There is no fixed duration for visits, nor do we recommend any specific length of time. The time spent on visiting is entirely up to the individual and can vary from a few minutes to over an hour. In order to allow access to waiting visitors, guides accompanying large groups may be kindly requested by the assistants working in the museum to refrain from lingering at length in the museum areas.

Can I use the Teacher’s Card and 18app to access the Museum?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

The Teacher’s Card and 18app vouchers cannot currently be used at the Sansevero Chapel Museum. Any updates will be announced on our website.

We remind you, however, that when accompanying school trips, one teacher per every ten children is entitled to free access. Young people from 10 to 25 years old, on the other hand, are entitled to reduced entry at a cost of € 5.00 (instead of € 8.00).

We also remind you that the Sansevero Chapel Museum is private and does not receive – nor has it ever received – any public funding and is supported exclusively by visitor entry fees.

I have a Campania Artecard: what benefits am I entitled to at the Sansevero Chapel Museum? Is the Artecard on sale at your Museum?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

The Campania Artecard is not on sale at the Sansevero Chapel Museum. Showing the Artecard at the ticket office, cardholders are entitled to reduced entry (€ 6.00 instead of € 8.00). Reduced entrance to the Sansevero Chapel Museum for Artecard holders, at a cost of € 6.00, in no way counts towards the number of free entries to other museums to which the Artecard card gives entitlement. Artecard holders will in any case have to queue at the ticket office and the entrance unless they have reserved and purchased tickets on the online platform, where it is possible to select the reduced ticket option reserved for Campania Artecard holders (in which case, the Artecard must still be shown at the entrance along with the ticket purchased online, which will not otherwise be valid for entry).

Wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility can visit the entire nave area of the Sansevero Chapel, which houses, among other works, the Veiled Christ, and the sacristy/bookshop. Is entry free on the first Sunday of each month?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

The Sansevero Chapel Museum is private and does not receive – nor has it ever received – any public funding and is supported exclusively by visitor entry fees. It is therefore not possible for us to take part in this type of initiative, which mainly involves national museums.

Are journalists entitled to free/reduced admission?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

There are no free or reduced tickets for journalists. We must emphasise that the Sansevero Chapel Museum is private and does not receive – nor has it ever received – any public funding and is supported exclusively by visitor entry fees. It is therefore not possible for us to offer free or discounted entry, except those expressly provided for and announced on the Opening hours and fees page. If a journalist is planning to write and publish an article on the Sansevero Chapel, he or she may contact the Museum press office at press@museosansevero.it.

How do I request an invoice if I purchase tickets at the ticket office?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

Alternatively, invoices can be requested at a later date by writing to the following email address: info@museosansevero.it. In this case, the date of the visit and the number and type of tickets purchased must be specified.

Is it necessary to make a reservation to visit the Museum?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

Online booking is strongly recommended in order to allow regulation of visitor access and in the interests of safety.
Online booking is the only means of guaranteeing entry to the Museum. It also allows you to choose the desired date and time slot.
A residual amount of last-minute tickets will be made available every day on which the Museum is open. They can be purchased at the ticket office while stocks last.
Online booking is compulsory for groups of 10 persons or more, and last-minute tickets for groups are not available at the ticket office.
A maximum of 45 people may be admitted to the three areas of the Museum at any one time.

I purchased a ticket online but I will be unable to use it: can I request a refund or change my reservation?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

During the booking process, visitors must read and flag acceptance of the rules, which expressly specify that the tickets are neither modifiable nor refundable. The booking page Online tickets and the regulations clearly state that, “The ticket cannot be used on a date other than the one originally chosen” and that, “Once online purchases have been completed, they cannot be cancelled or modified in any way. Tickets purchased online and booking fees are non-refundable (Art. 59, letter N, of Legislative Decree 206/2005, so-called ‘Consumer Code’)”.

I cannot find a slot for all my group to visit at the same time on the online booking platform. What can I do?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

Access to the Museum, which is of limited size, is always arranged taking into account the possible queues of visitors waiting outside and the number of guests already present inside. The limitations regarding the availability of tickets that can be booked online have been set to guarantee all visitors a pleasant experience at the Museum and to avoid uncomfortable overcrowding. The maximum number of places that can be booked on the platform for the same time slot for individuals and groups is 40. On the platform for schools the maximum is 35 (including teachers and anyone accompanying them). Larger groups can be divided into subgroups and make two or more bookings for immediately consecutive times.

I did not receive my tickets purchased online by email. What can I do?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

An automatic system sends a purchase confirmation email followed by another one with the tickets in pdf a few minutes after completion of the transaction. The buyer will receive the first email, confirming the transaction, and then a second e-mail containing the tickets in pdf. If you do not receive the tickets, you should first make sure that the transaction has actually gone through. Emails sent by the automatic system are sometimes not delivered simply because of a typing error in the email address entered by the user during the booking process. Lastly, we suggest you check that the emails sent by the automatic system have not gone into the spam folder of your mailbox. If the emails sent are not found in the spam folder, or you have any other problem, contact the manager of the booking service at info@azzurroservice.net or on +39 081.5934001 (Mon-Fri: 9:00am-1:30pm/3:00pm-7:00pm).

Can I buy my ticket on site and visit the Museum on a different date?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

For reasons related to the monitoring and management of entry, as well as for accounting purposes, tickets bought at the ticket office of the Museum cannot be used on a date other than the date of purchase. You may, however, pay for tickets in advance via bank transfer up to 72 hours before your visit. Nevertheless, advance payment via bank transfer does not constitute a booking, and visitors who have paid in advance must still queue in the normal way at the ticket office and the Museum entrance.

Does the Museum offer guided tours?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

The Sansevero Chapel Museum does not provide a guided tour service directly. An audio guide service lasting about 25 minutes is available in Italian, English, French, Spanish, and German. It can be rented at a cost of € 3.50. It is also possible to choose either the adult route or the children’s route, both available in the above-mentioned languages.

How long does the visit using an audio guide take?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

The audio guide lasts approximately 25 minutes. It takes the visitor along the entire museum route from the nave – which houses, among other works, the Veiled Christ – to the Underground Chamber, and then through to the sacristy/bookshop. The duration of the audio guide is wholly independent of the total duration of the visit: the time spent in the Museum is at the discretion of the individual visitor.

Are animals allowed inside the Museum?

Posted by admin on 02/12/2019

Regretfully, this is not permitted. This regulation also extends to small animals and/or animals in pet carriers. Visitors who have an animal with them can take turns to visit the Museum. Visitors waiting outside while looking after the animal need not queue again at the entrance but may enter directly.
The only animals allowed in the Museum are guide dogs for the disabled.

Is there a refund for visits booked for a date during the period of closure of the Museum due to the COVID-19 emergency?

Posted by admin on 20/10/2020

In accordance with the provisions in place due to the COVID-19 emergency and the subsequent restrictions, the Sansevero Chapel Museum has set up a reimbursement system with vouchers for anyone who purchased tickets to visit the Museum between 8th March and 11th June 2020, namely during the period of closure of the Museum.

As a further benefit to visitors, additional to legal requirements, the Sansevero Chapel Museum offered the chance to apply for a refund in the form of vouchers, to the equivalent value of the tickets purchased, until 31st August 2020. Vouchers already issued according to the procedure in place are valid for 18 months.

Please note that the voucher-issuing platform is no longer operative as of 1st September 2020.
