Opening of the exhibition ‘An immense scandal’ – from 24 June

‘AN IMMENSE SCANDAL’

The Prince of Sansevero’s Lettera Apologetica

Rare books and digital content on show at Museo Cappella Sansevero

24 June to 25 July 2021

From 24 June, visits to the Museo Cappella Sansevero will be enriched by the exhibition ‘An immense scandal’, dedicated to the Prince of Sansevero’s most important printed work, the Lettera Apologetica (1751), and to the ideological and political controversy triggered by the publication of the book, which provoked both wonder and disapproval. With digital content presented alongside rare volumes in their original edition, visitors can learn about some lesser-known aspects of the figure of Raimondo di Sangro, the proud standard-bearer of free thought.

The exhibition, curated by Fabrizio Masucci, forms part of the celebrations to mark the 250th anniversary of 7th Prince of Sansevero’s death, and can be visited until 26 July during the museum’s public opening hours by acquiring a ticket at no extra charge.
