The Museum is open from Friday to Sunday, all day from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. Last entry 30 minutes before closing time. For any changes to opening times and the calendar of special opening and closing and extended or reduced opening hours, please consult the Opening hours and fees page.
There are different prices for admission to the Museum: standard tickets cost € 8.00; Artecard holders and Fai members pay € 6.00; young people from 10 to 25 years pay € 5.00; children up to 9 years of age are entitled to a free ticket. The price for elementary, middle, and high schools is € 3.00 per student.
The Sansevero Chapel Museum is located in Via F. De Sanctis, just off Piazza San Domenico Maggiore in the heart of Naples’ historical town centre. The Museum is about a minute’s walk from Via dei Tribunali (the so-called decumanus maior) and about two minutes’ walk from Via B. Croce (part of the lower decumanus, commonly known as “Spaccanapoli”). Piazza del Gesù, the monumental complex of Santa Chiara, and Via San Gregorio Armeno (“Christmas Street”), are just a few minutes’ walk from the Museum. The Sansevero Chapel Museum is in the “ZTL del Centro Antico”, the traffic-free zone of the old part of town. For information on how to reach us, please visit the Where to find us page.
There is no fixed duration for visits, nor do we recommend any specific length of time. The time spent on visiting is entirely up to the individual and can vary from a few minutes to over an hour. In order to allow access to waiting visitors, guides accompanying large groups may be kindly requested by the assistants working in the museum to refrain from lingering at length in the museum areas.
Children up to 9 years of age, the disabled, and teachers accompanying school trips (one teacher per every ten pupils). The free ticket must be shown at the entrance to the Museum. It can be requested at the ticket office. Qualified tour guides are also entitled to free access upon simply showing their card at the Museum entrance.
The Teacher’s Card and 18app vouchers cannot currently be used at the Sansevero Chapel Museum. Any updates will be announced on our website.
We remind you, however, that when accompanying school trips, one teacher per every ten children is entitled to free access. Young people from 10 to 25 years old, on the other hand, are entitled to reduced entry at a cost of € 5.00 (instead of € 8.00).
We also remind you that the Sansevero Chapel Museum is private and does not receive – nor has it ever received – any public funding and is supported exclusively by visitor entry fees.
The Campania Artecard is not on sale at the Sansevero Chapel Museum. Showing the Artecard at the ticket office, cardholders are entitled to reduced entry (€ 6.00 instead of € 8.00). Reduced entrance to the Sansevero Chapel Museum for Artecard holders, at a cost of € 6.00, in no way counts towards the number of free entries to other museums to which the Artecard card gives entitlement. Artecard holders will in any case have to queue at the ticket office and the entrance unless they have reserved and purchased tickets on the online platform, where it is possible to select the reduced ticket option reserved for Campania Artecard holders (in which case, the Artecard must still be shown at the entrance along with the ticket purchased online, which will not otherwise be valid for entry).
Wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility can visit the entire nave area of the Sansevero Chapel, which houses, among other works, the Veiled Christ, and the sacristy/bookshop. Unfortunately, it is not possible to visit the Underground Chamber, as access to this space is via a narrow historical spiral staircase.
The Sansevero Chapel Museum is private and does not receive – nor has it ever received – any public funding and is supported exclusively by visitor entry fees. It is therefore not possible for us to take part in this type of initiative, which mainly involves national museums.
There are no free or reduced tickets for journalists. We must emphasise that the Sansevero Chapel Museum is private and does not receive – nor has it ever received – any public funding and is supported exclusively by visitor entry fees. It is therefore not possible for us to offer free or discounted entry, except those expressly provided for and announced on the Opening hours and fees page. If a journalist is planning to write and publish an article on the Sansevero Chapel, he or she may contact the Museum press office at press@museosansevero.it.
Visitors can request an invoice when purchasing tickets by contacting the staff at the ticket office directly; they will collect the data needed to issue the invoice and transmit it to the administration. Alternatively, invoices can be requested at a later date by writing to the following email address: info@museosansevero.it. In this case, the date of the visit and the number and type of tickets purchased must be specified.
To reserve the day and time of the visit (subject to availability), please access our platform for booking and purchasing tickets online directly from our website: Online tickets. A reservation charge will be added to the price of the ticket, as shown on the above-mentioned web page and in the “Purchase summary” before the purchase is finalised. Online purchases may be paid for using the Visa, Mastercard, and American Express credit card circuits.
The reservation is valid up to 15 minutes after the chosen time shown on the ticket. After this deadline, the ticket will still be valid on the date chosen. Under no circumstances will the ticket be valid for a date other than the one chosen.
Online booking is strongly recommended in order to allow regulation of visitor access and in the interests of safety.
Online booking is the only means of guaranteeing entry to the Museum. It also allows you to choose the desired date and time slot.
A residual amount of last-minute tickets will be made available every day on which the Museum is open. They can be purchased at the ticket office while stocks last.
Online booking is compulsory for groups of 10 persons or more, and last-minute tickets for groups are not available at the ticket office.
A maximum of 45 people may be admitted to the three areas of the Museum at any one time.
No, payment for online purchases on the ticket platform for individuals and groups is only possible using the Visa, Mastercard, and American Express credit card circuits. Only school groups, who use a dedicated booking and purchase platform, have the option of paying for tickets booked online via bank transfer.
During the booking process, visitors must read and flag acceptance of the rules, which expressly specify that the tickets are neither modifiable nor refundable. The booking page Online tickets and the regulations clearly state that, “The ticket cannot be used on a date other than the one originally chosen” and that, “Once online purchases have been completed, they cannot be cancelled or modified in any way. Tickets purchased online and booking fees are non-refundable (Art. 59, letter N, of Legislative Decree 206/2005, so-called ‘Consumer Code’)”.
Access to the Museum, which is of limited size, is always arranged taking into account the possible queues of visitors waiting outside and the number of guests already present inside. The limitations regarding the availability of tickets that can be booked online have been set to guarantee all visitors a pleasant experience at the Museum and to avoid uncomfortable overcrowding. The maximum number of places that can be booked on the platform for the same time slot for individuals and groups is 40. On the platform for schools the maximum is 35 (including teachers and anyone accompanying them). Larger groups can be divided into subgroups and make two or more bookings for immediately consecutive times.
An automatic system sends a purchase confirmation email followed by another one with the tickets in pdf a few minutes after completion of the transaction. The buyer will receive the first email, confirming the transaction, and then a second e-mail containing the tickets in pdf. If you do not receive the tickets, you should first make sure that the transaction has actually gone through. Emails sent by the automatic system are sometimes not delivered simply because of a typing error in the email address entered by the user during the booking process. Lastly, we suggest you check that the emails sent by the automatic system have not gone into the spam folder of your mailbox. If the emails sent are not found in the spam folder, or you have any other problem, contact the manager of the booking service at info@azzurroservice.net or on +39 081.5934001 (Mon-Fri: 9:00am-1:30pm/3:00pm-7:00pm).
Online ticket purchases are made through AzzurroService.net Srl, the company that operates the Museum’s booking platform. During the ticket booking procedure you can flag the item “Invoice request” on the page where the buyer’s data is entered and then insert your billing data. All invoicing requests must be sent directly to AzzurroService.net Srl at the email address info@azzurroservice.net or you can call them on +39 081.5934001 (Mon-Fri: 9:00am-1:30pm/3:00pm-7:00pm).
For reasons related to the monitoring and management of entry, as well as for accounting purposes, tickets bought at the ticket office of the Museum cannot be used on a date other than the date of purchase. You may, however, pay for tickets in advance via bank transfer up to 72 hours before your visit. Nevertheless, advance payment via bank transfer does not constitute a booking, and visitors who have paid in advance must still queue in the normal way at the ticket office and the Museum entrance.
The Sansevero Chapel Museum does not provide a guided tour service directly. An audio guide service lasting about 25 minutes is available in Italian, English, French, Spanish, and German. It can be rented at a cost of € 3.50. It is also possible to choose either the adult route or the children’s route, both available in the above-mentioned languages.
The audio guide lasts approximately 25 minutes. It takes the visitor along the entire museum route from the nave – which houses, among other works, the Veiled Christ – to the Underground Chamber, and then through to the sacristy/bookshop. The duration of the audio guide is wholly independent of the total duration of the visit: the time spent in the Museum is at the discretion of the individual visitor.
Regretfully, this is not permitted. This regulation also extends to small animals and/or animals in pet carriers. Visitors who have an animal with them can take turns to visit the Museum. Visitors waiting outside while looking after the animal need not queue again at the entrance but may enter directly.
The only animals allowed in the Museum are guide dogs for the disabled.
To request a private visit outside opening hours, please send an email to info@museosansevero.it. The email should specify the date, time, and number of people for whom the visit is being requested. After checking availability, the applicant will receive a copy of the regulations, including the price list. Consent is expressed by adding your signature.
In accordance with the provisions in place due to the COVID-19 emergency and the subsequent restrictions, the Sansevero Chapel Museum has set up a reimbursement system with vouchers for anyone who purchased tickets to visit the Museum between 8th March and 11th June 2020, namely during the period of closure of the Museum.
As a further benefit to visitors, additional to legal requirements, the Sansevero Chapel Museum offered the chance to apply for a refund in the form of vouchers, to the equivalent value of the tickets purchased, until 31st August 2020. Vouchers already issued according to the procedure in place are valid for 18 months.
Please note that the voucher-issuing platform is no longer operative as of 1st September 2020.
